What usually
turns out to be wrong.
A dishwasher rarely fails all at once. It drains slower, then leaves grit on the glasses, then one morning there’s an inch of water sitting over the filter. Most of what we find is mechanical and reachable: a blocked sump, a jammed drain pump, a hardened door gasket, a fill valve that has stopped opening. Some of it isn’t the machine at all, but the drain it was tied into. We pull the unit out, find which it is, and tell you what the fix costs.
Standing water in the bottom
The machine finishes its cycle and leaves an inch of water over the filter. Usually the sump or the drain pump is blocked, often by glass or a fruit stone, and sometimes the drain hose has no high loop.
Dishes come out gritty
Food is redeposited rather than washed off. We check the spray arm holes for lime, the chopper for wear and the fill level, because a machine taking too little water can’t clean at any temperature.
Water on the floor
Where it comes from decides the repair. A hardened door gasket leaks at the bottom corners, a stretched door cable lets the door drop out of square, and a sump seal wets the floor under the middle.
It won’t fill
The cycle runs dry. Either the inlet valve solenoid has failed, the stop under the sink has been closed and forgotten, or the float in the base is telling the machine it already holds water.
Dead panel, or it quits mid-cycle
No lights, or a cycle that stops partway with an error code. We test the door latch switch first, then the power at the outlet, which in many kitchens is shared with the disposal and its wall switch.
Everything comes out wet
Condensation drying needs heat in the final rinse. On machines with an element it’s usually the element or its thermostat. On a condenser-dry machine like a Bosch or Miele, it’s more often the rinse aid and the fill temperature.
What the job includes.
Diagnosis, not guesswork
The machine comes out on a mat, the kick plate comes off and we test the fault rather than replacing parts in hope. That is what the $79.99 service call buys.
The drain path, end to end
Filter, sump, chopper, pump and hose, plus the tail piece under the sink. A dishwasher tied into a blocked disposal inlet will keep backing up whatever we change inside it.
Parts checked against the plate
Gaskets, inlet valves, drain pumps, latches, elements and control boards. We confirm the part against the model plate on the door edge before anything is ordered.
The supply side while we’re in there
The shut-off, the braided supply line and the fitting at the valve get checked while the cabinet is open, because that is the cheapest time to catch a weeping joint.
Back in its bay, and run
The machine is levelled back into its bay, run through a complete cycle, and the cabinet floor checked dry afterwards. The repair carries a two-year warranty.
How the visit goes.

- 03The quote, then the workYou hear the price before a part is touched, and you can stop there and pay nothing but the service call.
- 04Repair and testThe part goes in, the machine goes back level, and a full cycle runs while we watch the drain and the cabinet floor.

The diagnosis is a flat $79.99 service call. That covers pulling the machine, finding the fault and telling you what it is. Parts and labour are quoted after that, and nothing beyond the service call is charged until you have agreed the price. If you decide not to go ahead, the service call is all you pay.
