Dryer repair in Toronto and the GTA.

A dryer that tumbles without heat, or takes three cycles to dry a load, is usually telling you something about its vent. We start there, then the machine.

What usually
turns out to be wrong.

Dryers fail in a pattern. Restricted venting makes the machine run hotter than it should, the high limit cuts the heat, and eventually the thermal fuse gives up and takes the heat or the motor with it. Replace the fuse without clearing the vent and you will be replacing it again by spring. So we check the duct run, the outside hood and the lint path first, then test the heat circuit itself: element and thermostats on an electric machine, igniter, sensor and valve coils on a gas one.

  • It tumbles but there is no heat

On an electric dryer the usual suspects are the thermal fuse, the element and the high-limit thermostat. On a gas dryer the igniter glows and dies, or the valve coils have gone weak and never open. Different machines, different tests.

  • It takes two or three cycles to dry a load

That is nearly always airflow, not heat. Crushed flex behind the machine, a long run holding lint, a flapper stuck shut at the outside hood, or a lint screen glazed over with fabric softener film.

  • It won’t start at all

If the motor is silent, we test the door switch and the start switch. If the motor hums but nothing turns, the belt has usually snapped, and the drum will spin freely by hand with no resistance at all.

  • Squealing, thumping or scraping

Noise tells you where to look. A squeal on start-up is usually the idler pulley, a rhythmic thump is a flat spot on a drum roller, and a scrape from the front is worn glides at the bulkhead.

  • It stops partway through and cools down

A machine that heats, runs, then quits is usually cycling its high limit because the air can’t get out fast enough. Clearing the vent fixes the symptom. Leaving it eventually costs you the fuse or the element.

  • The cycle ends with the load still damp

Sensor dryers decide when to stop by measuring the load across two metal bars inside the drum. Fabric softener residue coats those bars, the machine reads dry clothes early, and every cycle ends short. They clean up.

What the job includes.

  • The vent, not just the machine

The duct behind the dryer, the run through the wall and the hood outside all get looked at. Clearing the vent is part of the fix, because it is usually part of the fault.

  • The heat circuit, tested end to end

Thermal fuse, high limit, cycling thermostat and element on an electric machine. Igniter, flame sensor and gas valve coils on a gas one, with the connection leak-checked before the panel goes back.

  • The moving parts

Belt, idler pulley, drum rollers and front glides. These wear as a set, so where one has gone we say what the others look like rather than leaving you a second visit.

  • Gas connections, our own service

On a gas dryer the shut-off, the connector and the union are checked and leak-tested as part of the repair. Gas fitting is what we do most, so it doesn’t need a second contractor.

  • A hot cycle before we leave

The machine runs long enough to prove it heats and holds, the duct is reconnected and clamped rather than taped on, and the work carries a two-year warranty.

How the visit goes.

  1. 01Tell us gas or electricIt changes the parts we bring and the tests we run. The plate behind the door says which, along with the model number we need.
  2. 02The vent, then the panelThe flat $79.99. The machine comes out, the duct gets checked at both ends, and the back panel comes off for the heat circuit.
  3. 03The quote, vent includedWhat the part costs, what the labour costs, and whether the duct work is worth doing on the same visit. You decide before we start.
  4. 04Repair, then a heat testThe dryer runs on a timed cycle until it is properly hot, and we check the air actually coming out of the hood outside.

Dryer Repair questions.

If yours isn’t here, the phone is the fastest way to have it answered, seven days a week.

  • A flat $79.99 service call finds the fault, and parts and labour are quoted after that. The service call is the only thing charged until you have said yes to the rest. Many no-heat faults turn out to be an inexpensive part with a blocked vent behind it, so we price the vent work at the same time rather than coming back for it.

One call covers the installation or the repair: what the job involves, what it costs, and when we can be there.
