Gas · Gas Dryer Hookup
Gas dryer hookup in Toronto and the GTA.
A gas dryer is a short list of connections and one long one: the drop and its shut-off, a new connector behind the machine, and a duct that can actually move the air outside.

What usually
turns out to be wrong.
Gas dryers dry faster and cost less per load to run, which is why so many laundry rooms have a capped drop beside the washer waiting for one. Connecting the machine is the short part of the visit. What decides how it performs afterwards is the shut-off, the connector made up fresh, and the duct behind it, because a crushed elbow or a long run packed with lint has the machine fighting the vent on every cycle.
No gas where the laundry is going
Laundry moving upstairs is common, and a main-floor or second-floor dryer means the line leaves the basement and comes up inside a partition wall. That is a different job from a drop beside the furnace.
A duct that was never right
Crushed flex behind the machine, a run to a far wall with too many elbows, or a damper that no longer lifts. A dryer can only push so hard, so the duct gets sorted while the machine is out.
A tight closet the machine won’t clear
Bifold-door laundry closets leave no room to pull the dryer forward, so the connector and the duct get crushed when it goes back. Depth has to be measured with the vent elbow allowed for, not just the machine.
The pair is going one above the other
Stacking changes the geometry behind the machines: the kit has to suit the pair, the duct takes another turn, and the gas connector has to run without being pinched between the dryer and the wall.
A connector left on from the last machine
Connectors get reused when nobody is watching. They work-harden at the bends, corrode at the fittings, and none of that shows from the front. A new one goes on with every hookup.
A burning smell when it runs
Lint that has escaped the trap and collected around the burner or in the duct will scorch. Shut the machine down and leave it off. This is one to look at rather than to keep running.
What the job includes.
The gas drop
An existing capped drop finished properly, or a new branch run to the laundry position, with a shut-off at the machine that a hand can actually reach.
The connector, made up new
An approved gas connector fitted fresh rather than reused, run without a kink so nothing bears on the fitting when the dryer goes back.
The vent run
Duct checked from the machine to the outside hood, crushed flex replaced with rigid where it belongs, lint cleared and the damper checked for movement.
The new machine in, the old one out
New machine in, old one out and taken away, and stacking kits fitted where the pair is going one above the other.
Tested, then run hot
Joints tested with solution, then the dryer run on heat long enough to prove the burner lights, holds and the air is actually reaching outside.
How the visit goes.
- 01What the laundry room hasTell us whether there is a gas drop, where the vent leaves the house, and whether the pair is stacking or standing side by side.
- 02Machine out, duct openedGas isolated, the old dryer disconnected and carried out, and the duct pulled apart so we can see what has collected inside it.
- 03Connect and ventThe drop valved, the connector made up, the duct reassembled with the shortest sensible run, and the machine eased back without crushing either.
- 04Run it hotJoints leak-checked, a heat cycle run, airflow felt at the outside hood, and the lint trap and shut-off pointed out before we leave.

Gas Dryer Hookup questions.
If yours isn’t here, the phone is the fastest way to have it answered, seven days a week.
Not quite, though it is all our own service rather than two visits. What has to be added is the drop, the shut-off and a connector made up new, and the lot is leak-checked before the machine runs on heat. The dryer still wants an ordinary outlet nearby for its controls. Tell us what is on that wall now and we arrive with the right fittings.
